Yesterday I shared a wonderful article from Keri Lumm about how the habit of walking had helped her through “quarantine”. I related so well to this article because walking has been a regular part of my daily routine for several years. While I don’t quite get in 10,000 steps a day, I wanted to share what my routine looks like.
I have owned 2 treadmills so far. The first one was fairly large and took up a lot of space. I was the only one that used it and I only walk, I don’t jog or run, so we decided to give it to someone who could use all of its features.
I then purchased a small treadmill from Target that is only for walking. It is small in terms of overall space and it’s highest speed is 4 mph. It is perfect for me, easy to use and I even assembled it all by myself.
As you can see in the pic, my regular routine is a 30 minute 1.5 mile walk. I do this 5 – 6 days a week. The reason I started walking was to improve my overall health. Now that I am over 50, I keep walking because I know it benefits my future health as well. The old saying is true “if you don’t use it, you’ll lose it”, and I want to still be “moving” well into my senior years!
Not only does this benefit my physical health, but that 30 minutes is mine. It’s a time to de-stress, burn off some calories and reset my mind. Walking may not be your “cup of tea”, but I encourage you to find something you like to keep you moving. It’s never too late to start investing in you!
