I have a lovely new neighbor who has been so excited to show me all the updates she has done in her home. One of the things that she does well is placement. You know, strategically placing things so that the cords and uglier stuff is hidden. This got me thinking about cords and other things we hide!
As much as I hate to admit it, I have two areas in my home that have a tangled web of cords begging for some attention. Number one is the kitchen cable box/tv/phone and the other is the office surge protector/modem/router combo. Both of these units are a disaster and an eyesore!
These messes have been on my extended list of projects for some time, but honestly, I just didn’t know how to make it better. That’s when inspiration from my neighbor found me. They installed a new TV and hid the cords to the outlet, making them almost invisible. My fire for this project was rekindled.
I wish I could tell you that I came up with a brilliant DIY idea, but that would be a lie. Of course, I went to Pinterest and found some amazing ways to hide the “business side” of electronics.
The most common way is to place surge protectors and cords in a special box that hides the chaos. Of course, there were links to Amazon and I found just what I needed. With one click I awaited the delivery of the solution to all my cord chaos.
My “cable management” boxes arrived 2 days later and I got right to work. It was kind of like working a puzzle to get all the cords organized in the most efficient way but I was not going to be deterred . It took me about 20 minutes to get both the kitchen and office chaos under control. Here are some before and after photos.
The cost was inexpensive and the result is so much better. Definitely worth the $30!
The Other Things
Of course this got me thinking about the other things we hide or perhaps disguise is a better definition. Here’s my list in no specific order:
- Gray hair – I do love my hair therapy!
- Wrinkles – Serum or Botox, I’ll take both!
- Dust – Low lighting is my secret!
- Fluffy middle – Give me a loose top any day along with shapewear!
- Feelings – I’m fine, it’s all good!
- Loneliness – I’m introverted – I don’t need friends!
- Pain – I’m fine, denial, shut-down, isolation!
As you can see from my list, some of the things we hide are fun and cause no harm. But, our emotional stuff should never be hidden. We all deserve to be loved and accepted. It’s okay to not be okay and everyone needs connection. My hope is that this post will inspire you to take care of your chaos, inside and out!
